Provide Input on Proposed Park BondDear South Lake Sammamish Residents,
The City of Issaquah
is considering a bond measure that would appear on this November's ballot to
raise funds for park acquisitions and improvements to preserve quality of
life in the area. The general goal is to raise money to acquire more
space for, and improve space currently dedicated to, recreation and nature.
Suggestions
should relate to: Existing City of
Issaquah property, or property that the city could possibly acquire.
This includes King County properties within our newly annexed areas, such as
Meerwood Park, South Cove Park, the BlackBerry Park, Sammamish Cove Park,
and the Lewis Creek Nature Area. It DOES NOT include private parks
such as South Cove Park, Sammamish Beach Club Park, or Greenwood Point Park
and does not include the State Park.
Sample ideas being discussed by the committee: Create creek side park in downtown Issaquah, Improve drainage and new restrooms at soccer fields in Issaquah Highlands, more soccer and sports fields, acquire land to protect trails on Squak Mountain, protect/restore salmon habitat on Issaquah Creek.
Things To
Consider:
If this
measure passes, it could increase the City of Issaquah property
taxes by about $50 per average home. Those taxes would still be far lower
(by $700 per $350,000 home) than the King County property taxes we are
currently paying. We will switch over to lower Issaquah tax rates in 2008.
Task Force:
David Bangs and Gary Thede have both been appointed to an advisory task
force to get citizen input and help the Parks Board craft a successful
plan.

Or Come to an
Advisory Task Force Meeting, Any Wednesday evening through July 19th.
The task force
